Beagle wins!

A 15-inch beagle named Miss P won the top honor at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday, besting more than 2,700 competitors.
Miss P, a bouncy 4-year-old, was awarded the Best In Show prize at the 139th Westminster show, the second-longest continuously running sporting event in the United States after the Kentucky Derby.

Pillowcases for Charity: 4th graders + 5 quilters = 24

Fourth graders from Fruitport MI did with the help of 5 volunteers with sewing machines and pre-pinned fabric.

We each took one student at a time and mentored them on the basics of using a sewing machine:

and how to use an iron:

They were delighted to see what happens when you "birthed" a pillowcase:

Here they are.... all 24 of the students and their finished pillowcases
ready to give to a special organization.

It's never to late for you to do something special for charity.

This is something you could do with your kids, grandkids or group in an afternoon.
Use our free easy pattern and these fabric requirments:
3/4 yard main body
1/4 yard cuffed edge fabric
(We eliminated the 2" accent strip to make it easier to pin and sew)

This is how we did it: we organized ourselfs into groups of assemblers, piners, sewers and pressers!

This also would be to do with your grandson or granddaughter! All you need is pins, scissors, iron and sewing machine.

Happy 108th Birthday Dr Seuss!

Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 2, 1904.

“A person’s a person, no matter how small,” Theodor Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, would say. “Children want the same things we want. To laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained and delighted.”

Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents.  In the process, he helped millions of kids learn to read.

Baseball up date - Justin Verlander - MVP!

Justin Verlander wins AL Most Valuable Player
With a no-hitter, an AL pitching Triple Crown and a Tigers division title on his resume, Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander became the first starting pitcher in a quarter-century -- and the first Tigers player since 1984 -- to win AL MVP, beating out Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury and Toronto's Jose Bautista for the league's highest individual honor. Verlander received 13 of 28 first-place votes from members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Just as important, Verlander received three votes for second place and three votes for third, bolstering his point total to 280. Last week, Verlander was a unanimous selection as the AL Cy Young award

ONE of my favorite things; BASEBALL GOOOOO TIGERS

Watching baseball is almost as much fun for me as making a quilt for my grandkids!

My favorite quote from this game:
Will Martinez play?
Victor Martinez: "I will play tomorrow unless I am dead when I wake up."
