Cindy Staub of Quilt Doodle Designs makes her Marcus design debut with the SNOWMEN SNOW GLOBE Quilt. It features her 27" center panel (on cotton fabric), a circular snow globe motif, ready for your own embellishment -- embroidery, simple appliqué, beadwork, buttons. The snow globe is bordered with PRIMO PLAID FLANNELS: New Blues the quilt. The panel also has three smaller framed scenes and a verse in script that can be cut and pieced as desired in other projects. "I love the cozy, snuggly feel and homespun look of my Primo Plaid Flannel quilts. Marcus' New Blues palette brings quilters a classic American combination of denim blues, matched with just right shade of white -- not true white, not cream, but the perfect marshmallow ground windowpane design." Four traditional star blocks surround the center snow globe, giving the quilt a nostalgic look and feel. Quilters create three each of four different star blocks: checkerboard, pinwheel, four-square star and four-patch scrappy stars. With a generous yet manageable size of 67" x 67", the finished quilt is equally welcome for relaxing by the fireplace with a good book and hot cocoa, or simply displayed on a chair or couch back. Cindy suggests backing the cotton panel with a mid-weight fusible interfacing (or a lightweight batting, solid flannel or an extra layer of cotton), to give it a slightly more stable hand to match the weight of the flannels. She also recommends a variegated thread (specifically Valdani P7 Withered Blue Vintage) to add depth and visual interest.
We are challenging our readers to make pillowcases for our charities. We have 73 pillow cases so far and really would like to hit our goal of 200! It takes twenty minutes to make a pillow case and you can use up that scrap fabric of 27" plus 9" cuff. If you want to add a pop of color, just another 1" strip. Help us meet our goal!

Indigo blue and light quilts were so very popular in the 19th century and are still a classic today! Pam's own collection inspired her to also create this quilt and the diary entries of Mrs. Miller and her young protégé neighbor, Ellie. Recreate the blocks they stitched, for what's sure to be a treasured quilt in your collection
Winter is making its way back into the area with a vengeance, after a mild December and first half of January. Virtually all of West Michigan area dealt with sub-zero temperatures Monday morning, and wind chills were cold enough to close a number of schools for the day. Here is a look at some low temperatures from this morning:
When Tammy first laid her eyes on this eye candy fabric, the first thing that came to her mind was the movie Harry Loves Sally. Then when she got her hot little quilter’s fingers on the fabric and design just materialized from out of nowhere. Well it came from somewhere, but she let the fabric do the talking for her and the quilt image shown below is what she came up with.
Abbi May’s Fabric Shop has been sponsoring her BOM quilts, and many other quilts that I design, since 2006.
This is the new (and did she mention free?) 2019 block of the month (BOM) quilt for her sister-site, BOMquilts.com. The fabrics are bold and bright, fun and festive and even a little bit romantic, too! It’s an 11-part BOM quilt with one block pattern instruction revealed on the 20th of each month. If you follow along each month, you will have a quilt finished by Christmas next year! Woo Hoo!
PS: She can’t guarantee that you’ll have the same…ummm…reaction that Meg Ryan did in the diner, but I can’t promise you…won’t…either!
