Pillowcases for Charity: 4th graders + 5 quilters = 24

Fourth graders from Fruitport MI did with the help of 5 volunteers with sewing machines and pre-pinned fabric.

We each took one student at a time and mentored them on the basics of using a sewing machine:

and how to use an iron:

They were delighted to see what happens when you "birthed" a pillowcase:

Here they are.... all 24 of the students and their finished pillowcases
ready to give to a special organization.

It's never to late for you to do something special for charity.

This is something you could do with your kids, grandkids or group in an afternoon.
Use our free easy pattern and these fabric requirments:
3/4 yard main body
1/4 yard cuffed edge fabric
(We eliminated the 2" accent strip to make it easier to pin and sew)

5 Yard Quickie Pattern makes two quilts!

One 5 yard bundle can be easily turned into two baby quilts instead of one large quilt.

The pattern makes one quilt 56" x 80" (10 rows of 7 blocks)
or divide your rows into sections of (5 rows of 7 blocks) and make two 40" x 56" quilts.

Quilt sampler Barb made this quilt and then decided to take it apart in the middle to make two quilts!  TA-DA!  TWO SMALLER QUILTS!

These are quilts that go together quickly, a great project for when you want to
make a fun fast quilt for babies, kids, lap quilts or charities.

To make this quilt you need this:

Together‚ let’s make 1‚000 quilts to keep kids warm this winter!

Want to make a huge difference in the lives of in–need kids this winter‚ while doing something you love? Craftsy’s community of passionate quilters has set an ambitious goal of donating 1‚000 quilts to the wonderful Project Linus organization by Dec. 15th. With just over two months to go‚ your help is more critical than ever.

Here at Abbi Mays we would like to support this effort and are offering quilt kits at a special.  You can donate them to Project Linus, your local charity, or send back to us and we will donate them to Everywomans Place in Muskegon MI.

The free pattern we are kitting is by Anita Grossman Solomon:
"I devised a rotary-cut quilt for an appearance on Simply Quilts (episode #1129). Each fabric in Super-Sized Nine Patch is cut with just 2 cuts with a rotary cutter. Using 3 fabrics and swapping the cut pieces yields 3 baby quilts in no time at all. I can see these quilts used for charity quilts, last minute baby showers or background for applique."

Abbi Mays quilt kits are available with flannel or cotton fabrics and were epecially chose for kids and babies.
There are 3 prints 2 yards each, enough for 3 tops and backs!
