Favorite Things Quilt by Gerri Robinson + Free Pattern

This 68" square star quilt was designed and pieced by Gerri Robinson of Planted Seed Designs and machine quilted by Deb Miner.

The nine 16" star blocks all have blue points sewn with half-square triangle units and scrappy centers made with hourglass units.

The blocks are assembled with vertical sashing strips and two horizontal sashing rows with cornerstones. Gerri's instructions and diagrams for block construction
are clear and easy enough for a confident beginner to follow.

Gerri advises you to save cutting the inner (C.4) and outer border (A.1 & 2) strips until the center unit is complete. Then, measure the center of the quilt vertically and horizontally to determine the correct lengths for your quilt and cut to those measurements. This tip allows for individual variations in piecing with ¼" seam allowances. Sew the border strips to the top, bottom, and sides of the quilt, layer with batting and backing, pin baste, and machine quilt as desired. An allover floral or leaf pattern would suit this pretty quilt perfectly!

Included in kit:
Free Pattern: Favorite Things
Approx: 8 1/2 yards fabric for top, borders and binding
(Fabrics used in these quilts are as pictured and from Favorite Things
(we made no substitutions).

Woodland Christmas new quilt kit for Holiday 2014

This beautiful 70" x 70" Woodland Christmas quilt was designed and pieced by Gina Gempesaw and machine quilted by Carole Whiting.

You'll want to be a very confident beginner or beyond to make this quilt. Please be sure to read all the cutting instructions carefully because several pieces are fussy cut, including the outer border, and because of the directionality of some prints. Two convenient, full-size templates are provided for one of the blocks. Label all the pieces and keep them together until you are ready to sew.

Fussy cut the center square and the 4 corner squares from the large poinsettia fabric. Gina featured the motif with a red and a white poinsettia from this print. Her cutting, sewing, and assembly instructions are clear and easy to follow. Fussy cut the outer border at 10½" to include the village vignette, the poinsettias, and the silver mercury glass ornaments, and then miter. She has allowed enough fabric for you to adjust how the poinsettias meet at the miters. An allover holly or poinsettia machine quilting pattern would finish this quilt beautifully, but if you still love to hand quilt, there's plenty of time left for you to do so!

Meet the fabric designer / Author: Jennifer Chiaverini

Best selling author and quiltmaker, Jennifer Chiaverini, tells us the story behind Sarah‘s Collection. “In the first Elm Creek Quilt novel, Sarah McClure is hired to help master quilter Sylvia Bergstrom Compson prepare her ancestral estate for sale. After quilting lessons become the foundation for a blossoming friendship between the two women, Sarah proposes turning Elm Creek Manor into a retreat for quilters – and Elm Creek Quilt Camp was born. The rose fabrics are reminiscent of the beautiful rose gardens on the estate grounds, where Sarah and Sylvia share many significant moments. The Bachelor's Puzzle print is a nod to one of the blocks from Sarah's first quilt, a sampler she makes under Sylvia‘s guidance. The delicate paisley pattern was inspired by the paisley fabric Sarah chooses as a signature print for her sampler. I associate Sarah‘s Collection with my reader's guide to the series, An Elm Creek Quilts Companion: New Fiction, Traditions, Quilts, and Favorite Moments from the Beloved Series. The new book includes an exclusive short story inspired by questions from real readers of the series.”

In addition to the rose designs in Sarah‘s Collection, there's a border stripe, a windowpane check, and a tiny floral that works perfectly as a texture. This collection is sure to please quilters who love to sew with floral fabrics in pretty pinks and sage greens in traditional quilts, home décor projects, and apparel. For inspiration, see Jennifer‘s Loyal Union Sampler from Elm Creek Quilts, a treasure trove of traditional blocks. Read more about Jennifer‘s Elm Creek Quilt novels and her new book releases at her website: www.elmcreek.net.
